Description

Inspired by the MFIT exhibition Fashion Unraveled and organized by MFIT and the Fashion Research Network, this one-day colloquium explored the concepts of memory, wear, and imperfection in fashion. Speakers focused on imperfect garments and the significance of dressing as a habitual, intimate, and ephemeral act.

Sarah Scaturro is the head conservator of The Costume Institute, Metropolitan Museum of Art, where she is in charge of the preservation and display of the collection and the development of the conservation research program. In 2017, she curated The Secret Life of Textiles: Synthetic Materials, an exhibition focused on the ephemerality of modern and contemporary fashion. From 2006 to 2012, she was the textile conservator and assistant fashion curator at the Cooper-Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum. She is a PhD student at Bard Graduate Center, studying the history and theory of fashion conservation, and can be found online at www.exhibitingfashion.com
