Four video recordings from The Museum at FIT's 25th academic symposium "Stilettos to Sneakers: A Virtual Shoe Symposium" on December 3, 2021. This virtual event brings together scholars and curators and their new research on the social and cultural significance of shoes.

Talk 1: MFIT Director and Chief Curator Dr. Valerie Steele and Curator Colleen Hill use the museum's collections to provide an overview of the history of shoe design.

Talk 2: MFIT curators Melissa Marra-Alvarez and Elizabeth Way talk about their exhibition "Head to Toes."

Talk 3: Elizabeth Semmelhack, director and senior curator at Bata Shoe Museum in Toronto, Canada, shares the fascinating history of the high heel.

Talk 4: Los Angeles native Christyna Pourhabib, editor of the coffee table book "The First Pair," talks about how sneakers become an entry point into the broader subjects of race, gender, class, and identity.
