Artist and FIT Fine Arts alumna Oasa DuVerney is known for her figurative works utilizing graphite on paper. DuVerney’s work centers itself in social and political commentary that relates to her social status as a woman of color and a working-class person. DuVerney’s work is in the permanent collection of the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which is currently featuring her work in Flight into Egypt: Black Artists and Ancient Egypt, 1876–Now. She was recently awarded a New York City Percent for Art commission to create work for the Brooklyn Public Library Eastern Parkway Branch.
She received her BFA from FIT, and her MFA from Hunter College and is currently an assistant professor for the School of Art and School of Design at Pratt Institute.
The 2024–25 ARTSpeak lecture series is presented by the departments of Fine Arts and History of Art and been made possible by generous grants from Susan Daykin, the dean of the School of Art and Design, and the dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
