Faces and Places in Fashion: William L. McComb

Description

Part presentation, part Q&A, FIT's "Faces & Places in Fashion" lecture series is an opportunity to connect students and the public alike to the pulse of the fashion industry in an open and conversational setting.
CEO of Liz Claiborne since 2006, Mr. McComb describes his early career in pharmaceutical and medical device merchandising and his transition to apparel merchandising at LIz Claiborne at a time of great change. He explains how his job was to undo the company's growing interest in acquisitions away from good design, and sold or closed half of the Claiborne brands. His career advice is that success requires a complete understanding and respect for all parts of a business and a real passion for the work. Introduced by Alice Papazian. Recorded at the Fashion Institute of Technology amphitheatre Apr. 20, 2009.
