Hue Live: What Is Mexican Fashion? With Museum at FIT curator Tanya Melendez-Escalante ’04
Subject
Description
Tanya Melendez-Escalante ’04 grew up in Mexico City and taught at Universidad Latinoamericana in Mexico before moving to New York to earn her MA from FIT in Fashion and Textile Studies: History, Theory, Museum Practice. Today, she’s the senior curator for education and public programs for The Museum at FIT.
For this live virtual event, Melendez-Escalante will discuss how she came to be a curator; the recent exhibition she curated in Guadalajara, Mexico; and the complex ways in which Mexican fashion intersects with style in the United States. After a conversation, Melendez-Escalante will take questions from the audience.
FIT’s Hue Live is a series of intimate conversations featuring the people and stories that define FIT. Starting this spring, when connecting the FIT community around common interests and pursuits is more important than ever, FIT chief storyteller Alex Joseph, will speak with some of the college’s most talented and influential alumni across a range of industries.
