Title

Fashion and Physique Symposium: Christian Siriano, Becca McCharen-Tran, and Kim Jenkins

Description

Kim Jenkins in conversation with Becca McCharen-Tran and Christian Siriano at The Museum at FIT's 19th fashion symposium, Fashion and Physique, held on Friday, February 23, 2018.
The one-day symposium featured lectures and panels on topics such as the emergence of the plus-size fashion industry in the early twentieth century, the impact of popular culture on how we assess the female body, and fashion accessibility for the disabled in the technological age.
Kim Jenkins is a part-time lecturer at Parsons and a visiting assistant professor at Pratt Institute. Her courses address how politics, psychology, race, and gender shape the way we “fashion” our identities.
Becca McCharen-Tran is founder and creative director of the architectural women’s wear line Chromat. She designs empowering pieces for boundary-breaking women such as Beyoncé, Madonna, and Nicki Minaj.
Christian Siriano launched his eponymous collection in 2008. He has dressed stars such as Lupita Nyong’o, Lady Gaga, and Leslie Jones, as well as former First Lady Michelle Obama. He released a photographic retrospective with Rizzoli Books in 2017.
